Formed in 2007

The band that is now Animist, was once known as Black Akrobat, a nod to Black Sabbath. It was a high school project with a lot of ambition. Over time a lot of members would come and leave. Several years later, with a solidified lineup the band would change their name. Their first ever show was opening up for Cryptodira’s EP release show on Long Island. Since then the band has already shared a stage with the legendary Fleshgod Apocalypse, Beyond Creation, Necronomicon and more! This band certainly has a knack for getting on shows that they belong on. Now they’re working on planning out a tour and simultaneously preparing for a 2015 release of a full length entitled “Of Tales Forgotten”. When they do tour, you can be sure that Animist will be with a very fitting band and will hit just the right spots to add more metal fans unto their following from across the states.

The innovation behind this band is only matched by their powerful live show. I felt like my lungs were part of a ping pong game from pounding double bass. Randy Tesser’s powerful controlled blast beats practically made me sweat with envy. Curiously enough, listening to this band live is heavy as **** while listening to the EP is kinda of more of a brutalful (yeah I just created a combination of brutal and beautiful out of necessity) type of experience. I highly reccomend you do both in the very near future. Animist has played my most recent show and their sound was even better this time around.
You can start by downloading their FREE (Although donations are certainly encouraged for this hardworking band) EP here. This 3 track EP still clocks in at 32 minutes and will leave you wanting the full length before it’s even done. These dudes are as awesome as their music. So pick up a shirt or something and you’ll be the coolest guy at the next death metal show!
